Greetings, from the good folks of the United Church of Christ in Spring Valley, Illinois. Iam the Rev. Charles Maney, but everyone calls me Pastor Chuck. Our community of faith finds that a personal greeting, and a genuine welcome, makes us who we are. The United Church of Christ declares, “Whoever you are, and wherever you are in life’s journey, you are welcome here”, suits us just fine.
Besides our sense of welcome, our congregation loves the inspiration of the scriptures, and we like to sing. We use singing to inspire our awareness of the Spirit among us, and ready our hearts for the message from God.
The activities of our children’s ministry are important to us. We get carried away with Vacation Bible School. We plan this activity to welcome children from all across the community, not just the children from our own congregation. While this may be the jewel of our children’s ministry, we follow that up with the Summer Sidewalk Sunday School – a one room schoolhouse approach - that takes us through the summer and into the regular Fall through Spring full schedule.
We have an adult Sunday School, from 8:30 to 9:15, where we read through and comment on the scriptures that will be used in worship the following week. This participatory atmosphere helps insure the preached message reflects both the scriptures and what is happening in the lives of the people in the pew.
Our regular Sunday worship is at 10am. In recent years we have added a casual Saturday night service at 5pm. This has proven to be a low stress way for people to check us out. Most of our new members in recent years came either through Vacation Bible School, or Saturday night service, or both.
We would welcome your inquiries about the life in our church. We are also on Facebook, Spring Valley UCC. We send out a regular monthly newsletter, the Chimes, which is excerpted on the webpage. There is also a weekly email update you could subscribe to by emailing the office at firstname.lastname@example.org. The weekly update includes: news, prayer requests, and a bit of inspiration.
May the peace of Christ be with you, and may you be inspired to come and visit.
In the name of Christ,
